Why a Trading Plan?

The plan solves the biggest problem in trading: yourself. Under pressure, you make bad decisions. A plan replaces emotional reactions with predefined rules.

The 7 Building Blocks of Your Trading Plan

1. Your Goal

What do you want to achieve with trading? Be specific:

Bad: I want to make money
Good: I want to achieve 15% annual return with maximum 12% drawdown, spending 5 hours per week

2. Your Market Universe

Which instruments do you trade? DAX stocks? S&P 500? Forex majors? ETFs? Define your playing field.

3. Your Setup

What conditions must be met before opening a trade? For example:

AI signal with confidence above 75%
Price above SMA 200 (uptrend)
RSI between 30-70 (not overbought/oversold)
Volume above 20-day average

4. Your Entry

How do you enter? Market order? Limit order? At what price exactly? Defined before the trade, not during.

5. Your Exit

Three exit scenarios must be defined:

Stop-loss: Where do you exit if the trade goes against you?
Take-profit: Where do you take profits?
Time limit: After how many days do you close if nothing happens?

6. Your Risk Management

Maximum risk per trade: ___% of portfolio
Maximum total risk: ___% in open positions
Maximum daily loss: ___euros then pause
Maximum monthly loss: ___euros then strategy review

7. Your Routine

Morning: Check economic calendar, review AI signals, review open positions
Trading hours: Only trade during defined windows
Evening: Document trades, keep journal, plan next day
Weekly: Performance review, strategy adjustment if needed

The Plan Review Cycle

Your plan is not set in stone. Review it monthly. But never change the plan during a drawdown — that is emotional reaction, not rational adjustment.
